Mastering Photovoltaic System Design: From Theory to Practice
Biography
Professor Arouna Darga is a senior scientist with extensive experience in the characterization and modeling of semiconductor materials and devices for photovoltaics (PV), optoelectronics and energy storage. He has contributed to key technologies and solutions in highly competitive international environments, particularly in renewable energy, smart grids, rural electrification and African development.
He is Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Sorbonne Université, senior scientist at the Institut Photovoltaïque d’Île-de-France (IPVF) and researcher at the Group of Electrical Engineering of Paris (GeePs). His research focuses on the electronic and optical properties of semiconductor materials and devices for photovoltaic applications. He teaches power electronics, renewable energy, embedded electronic design and wireless communications in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Polytech Sorbonne.
He is also a part-time teacher at École Polytechnique, where he specializes in the modeling of photovoltaic solar cells. He previously served as a lecturer at Polytech Sorbonne, teaching semiconductor device physics, fundamentals of electronics and hardware description and design (VHDL).
He earned his PhD in photovoltaics, solar cells, semiconductor device physics, microelectronics and photonics from Sorbonne Université, carried out at the Group of Electrical Engineering of Paris (CentraleSupélec). His doctoral research studied the factors limiting the photovoltaic conversion efficiency of electrodeposited and co-evaporated CuInGaSe thin-film solar cells, as part of the CISEL joint research project between CNRS and EDF to develop electrodeposited CIS solar cells. He also holds a master’s degree in aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, thermal engineering and acoustics from the University of Poitiers and a master’s degree in fundamental and quantum physics from the University Ouaga I Professeur Joseph Ki-Zerbo.
Alongside his academic and research work, he volunteers as a technical expert for Synergie Solaire, evaluating rural electrification projects in developing countries, and is President of Eau Fil du Soleil, an organization dedicated to environmental causes. He is also France’s national representative for the African Network for Solar Energy (ANSOLE), which promotes renewable energy in Africa while preserving the environment.
