Biography
Professor Adel Abdallah is a civil engineer and geotechnical expert with a passion for advancing soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. Born and raised in Tunisia, he graduated from the National Engineering School of Gabès in 1993, then obtained a Master’s degree in Civil and Mining Engineering in 1995 and a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine in Nancy, France, in 1999.
Since 2000, he has been Associate Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Lorraine. With expertise in soil mechanics, geotechnical design and numerical methods, he conducts research on the thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior of unsaturated soils, using advanced numerical modeling, model parameter optimization and machine learning approaches. His research also covers soil–foundation interaction, thermo-active geostructures and soil improvement, with a focus on practical applications and innovative solutions.
From 2012 to 2018, he was Academic Dean of the Nancy School of Geology (École Nationale Supérieure de Géologie), where he introduced competency-based learning into the Engineering Geology curriculum. His commitment to the education and professional development of future engineers is widely recognized in the academic community.
His research and teaching continue to shape the understanding and practice of geotechnical engineering, with the ultimate aim of building safer and more sustainable infrastructure.
